I hope this email finds you well. I am writing to you because in the past you have generously sponsored an underprivileged child to attend the “Warriors of the Rainbow” annual summer camp or have expressed interest in sponsoring one.
The central theme for this year is ALL OCEAN LIFE, and in conjunction with this we are so pleased to announce that we are partnering with Whales of Guerrero for this summer program. Enrique, who you may know as the new director of Whales of Guerrero has worked with us in the summer camp for years. We are all very excited to partner together this summer to provide the best summer camp ever for our ‘Warriors of the Rainbow’. Whales and Sea turtles are both such an important part of our Ocean life, we think this is a perfect match.
Once again, the summer camp program has been scheduled for two weeks. The dates will be July 28th to August 8th, Monday to Friday from 8:00 am to 1:00 pm. The summer program is intended for children of ages 7 to 12 years old. A few of the former ‘Warriors’ who are now 13 years and older, will attend summer camp as leaders. The objective is to continue developing and practicing their leadership skills as they serve as role models for the younger children.
The curriculum as always will be very rigorous and will integrate the areas of values, reading, language, mathematics, environmental science, fine arts, physical education, and leadership skills.
Two field trips will be scheduled, where students will be participating in hands-on activities related to the topics.
A night patrol will also be scheduled on Friday August the 1st. Students will have the opportunity to search for sea turtle nests and relocate the eggs into the camp’s hatchery. Other activities will include educational interactive games, music, dance and if the weather permits, a lesson in astronomy. At the end of the session, children will perform a presentation for parents and sponsors who are able to attend.
Most of the children who attend summer camp come from underprivileged families who are unable to afford a meaningful summer educational program. Like last year, transportation for children from the neighboring communities of Los LLanitos and Las Pozas will be provided.
This year, the cost of the program is $2,250 pesos ($115.00 USD) per child and includes school supplies, teaching materials, field trips, t-shirt, and lunch.
Speaking about food, we have always provided a healthy lunch for the campers. Last year, by including transportation for the poorest areas, we found that many children arrived without eating breakfast. So, then we made sure to have fruit and snacks on hand for them to start the day right. We will be doing this again because sadly, for some of the children, the meals they have with us will be their only meals of the day.
Due to the fundraising activities kindly organized by Mitchell Thorp and Patty Sullivan at the O’Ridley’s Tortuga Bar during the winter season, we are able to increase the fee less than the price increases we have had.
Please consider sponsoring one or more students. Daily photos and videos will be posted on social media in addition to a summary report provided at the end of the program.
